Joyce Miller

Joyce Miller

Born in Florida to parents who came from Maine, Joyce Miller grew up in New England. She has a PhD in Modern European History from Bryn Mawr, and she taught history at Boston University. She left teaching to be a mother, and when she was ready to return to work, there were no teaching jobs available. When she saw an ad for a corporation looking for someone to tell their story, she thought that would be fun and got the job. She never looked back. This work sent her around the world to write up stories about companies and people who were clients of the companies she worked for. She did this work until she retired about 10 years ago, and since then, she has knitted many hats and sweaters. In addition, she knits breasts for women who have had mastectomies and chose not to have reconstruction. She has made several quilts, especially lap quilts. She was recently given a large box of quilting pieces her mother had cut out for quilting back in the 1940s and 50s. Joyce has made five lap or crib quilts from these pieces that are as bright today as they were when her mother cut the pieces, and she has many more pieces yet to use!
