You can locate rescue volunteers in your area on the list that follows. If a
state coordinator is listed, contact that person first.
If this is an emergency
situation involving an Airedale in trouble, please call rather than email.
The volunteers listed here have indicated that they follow the policies and
guidelines
established by the ATCA Rescue & Adoption Committee; however, this is not
independently investigated by the Committee and
you should verify:
It is the policy of National Airedale Rescue to spay or neuter all dogs before
adoption.
In rare exceptions, when spaying/neutering has to be delayed for medical
reasons or
age of a puppy, the dog may be placed on a "foster to adopt" basis pending the
surgery,
but the adoption is not to be finalized until after the surgery. Please
contact the
President of National Airedale Rescue if any dog is rescued who is not a
candidate for sterilization.
The Airedale should have been examined by a licensed veterinarian, checked for
heartworm and parasites,
brought up to date on any required age-appropriate vaccinations and treatment
started for any
medical conditions.
A rescue volunteer should have personally evaluated the dog for behavior and
temperament prior to placement.
In addition -- YOU should expect to be thoroughly screened and evaluated so
that you can be matched with an appropriate Airedale.
If you call one of the volunteers and receive an answering machine,
be sure to include your name, the time you called, your phone number,
your email address, best time to reach you by phone, your city and state
and whether you are looking to adopt an Airedale or whether you have
an Airedale you are considering surrendering. Please speak clearly and
slowly. Be considerate of the time when you place your call.
If you are writing or calling because you have an Airedale to surrender,
please describe your Airedale and give a short description of why you
are considering this option.
When corresponding with one of the volunteers below via email,
please indicate your city and state, your telephone number where you can be
reached
(day and evening), whether you currently own an Airedale or owned an Airedale
in the past,
tell something about your experience with Airedales and why you are considering
adopting
an Airedale. Information about the rescue program and a complete application
form can
then be sent to you in reply to your inquiry.
PLEASE CORRESPOND WITH ONLY ONE VOLUNTEER - that is, the State Coordinator if
one is
listed, or the coordinator who is located closest to your own geographical
location. If you have selected
a volunteer incorrectly from the listing below, you will be referred to a
closer volunteer who will
then be in a position to reply to you. If you are unable to reach one of the
volunteers within a reasonable
time, or if you discover that the information below is not current, contact us
with your city and state, telephone number
where you can be reached, and the name and email/telephone number of the rescue
volunteer you attempted to contact.
All of the people listed below are volunteers,
fitting their rescue work around families, their own dogs and, usually,
full-time jobs.
Your consideration and patience will be greatly appreciated. If you are
calling long-distance
and get an answering machine, please leave your mailing address if you are
interested in obtaining
information about adopting a dog or volunteering, or let the volunteer know
that you will accept
a collect call. Volunteers are not reimbursed for expenses such as
long-distance telephone charges
and gasoline.
