Artists comments:

Having joined the quilting group late, we decided that rather than early historical Airedales, we would concentrate on the 21st Century, comical-but-true, Airedale antics of Lancelot in particular. So we perused any and all illustrations we could find for ideas and thought about Lance's misadventures. He always has to see what I'm putting on the grill. I try to be very careful that he can't investigate after the grill is on. Also, I'm trying to change his diet from kibble to a natural, raw diet, but I think I have the only Airedale who is a finicky eater. Dogs are suppose to LOVE this diet, but not Lance. However, if he thinks the meat is just for us, of course, he wants it!! Thus, "I'll Take Mine Raw" was conceived.

The square was appliquéd by Judy Manlove, Greehwood, DE, and "commissioned" by Donna Engeldt of Airedale-L.

Artists Bios:

Judy Manlove and I have quite a few common interests, of course, a love of dogs being the foremost. My household is run by our two-year-old Airedale, Lancelot (Dabob's First Knight), and Sophie, our six-year-old rescued soft coated wheaten terrier. Judy lives with husband, Gary, Basset hounds, Molly and Jeb, and the real ruler of the roost, Jack, a Lakeland terrier. Judy and I enjoy attending dog shows and craft shows (where we're always on the lookout for dog-related items and quilting supplies for Judy), gardening, shopping, and leisurely lunches. We both have time for this now that we've retired from teaching--hooray!!! Judy taught thirty years of junior high math, and I taught English for nineteen years in junior high and the last eight in a technical high school. We also share a love of reading, usually novels, often suspense. Judy's part-time job in the public library gives us a jump on reserving the latest books; nice little perk from knowing the librarian!

I really did appreciate Judy's offer to quilt a block for the ADT-L Quilting Bee's 2000 quilt, and I hope you do, too. We're definitely looking forward to seeing it in person soon.
