I am Karen Brown from Gloversville, New
York, in the foot hills of the Adirondacks.
I live in an 1830 farm house on 46 acres
with my 3 Airedales, Shamus, Gaelan and
Rushton. My Norwich Terrier, Norton passed
over the rainbow bridge last November. In
April, my heart dog, Gaelan was diagnosed
with lymphoma. Since his prognosis was so
poor, I decided to try homeopathy with the
gracious blessing of my very competent vet.
He is holding his own for the time being,
and I treasure every day. In May
I had the
chance to get a 2 year old male from one of
my supervisors at work. Rushton had spent
most of his life in a kennel with his sitter
and another older male Airedale. He is the
sweetest, sunniest guy! Everthing is an
adventure. I am so grateful to have him! I
feel like I am wadding through Airedales in
my little house. I have far more help and
companionship than I need. The trio are
omnipresent.
My partner, Jim lives in Clifton Park.
Together we have been working on a variety
of rennovation projects. I am the proud
owner of a new French door and the end of my
house is no longer at risk of sliding into
the Cayadutta Creek. It's only taken me 3
1/2 years to persuade Jim that living in a
large, elegant house, on a cul de sac in
Clifton Park, with all of the amenities of
an upscale community can't compete with the
joys of living in a handy man special with 3
terriers in the country. When he retires in
May 2011, he is selling his house and I get
him and all of his talents full time.
I continue to keep my day job to pay for my
hobbies. There are always plants that want
to live in my yard, and I am a fabriholic.
I garden, piece quilts, kayak and hike in my
spare time. I am on a first name basis with
most of the staff at the lumber and hardware
stores in the region from doing ongoing
projects at two properties. I work as a
Residential Program Director for the Fulton
County ARC providing support to individuals
wih developmental and mental health
disabilities. I am in my 36th year with the
same agency. I never have a dull day, and
am continuously blessed and touched by the
individuals, staff and families who I work
with. Life is busy and full. |
