Gaelan, Karen, Norton and Shamus.

I am Karen Brown from Gloversville, New York, which is in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains.  I live in an 1830 Cape Cod house on 46 acres that I have been restoring for the past 10 years.  My renovation accomplishment for this year was to complete a real bedroom on the second floor so that I could move the bed out of the living room.  The property is terrier heaven with a pond and a stream that winds through the back yard.  Gardening is my second passion after quilt making.  I have gradually been adding flower beds, berry bushes and fruit trees to create my own little eden.

I share my home with three delightful males!  Airedales Shamus and Gaelan are 7 and 8 respectively.  Norton the Norwich is 13.  It is his opinion that we all require direction from him.  Gaelan is a rescue from Michigan that Annette Hall placed with me.  He is a terrific advertisement for Airedale Rescue.  I am active with Airedale Rescue in Upstate New York.  This is my fifth year of involvement with The Airedale Terrier Quilting Bee.

To support my dogs and hobbies I  have worked as a Residential Program Director for the Lexington Center for 33 years supervising programs for developmentally disabled adults, and persons who have a mental health diagnosis.  I am active with our local quilt guild (Sew Busy Quilters) and the Historic District Review Board in Gloversville.

For a number of years I went through my "barn goddess" phase where I kept goats, rabbits and chickens.  All three of the dogs were involved with barn chores.  I was able to get some wonderful photos of the boys and their barn buddies.  They were very gentle with the babies, and I was amazed at how well the mothers tolerated their presence.  My block is of Shamus and baby Pygmy goat Ester.  All of the livestock has been rehomed to 4H families.  This summer I am hoping to convert the barn into a summer house with a view of the pond.
