Gena Welch Booher has taken part in the making of the
Airedale quilt nearly every year since it first began.
This quilt is especially dear to her, because she has
always believed that telling stories helps us to grow
and learn in ways that act deeply upon both our hearts
and our minds. Gena's creative mind sparkled and
twinkled as she played with the ideas of old familiar
stories, reworking them in ways that put Airedales in
the middle of all the action.
Isn't that where Airedales belong? In the middle of all
the action!
It was the stories of Airedales in need that inspired
Gena to foster and to adopt various Airedales over the
past 13 years. Currently, she and her husband Chuck
share their home with three Airedales: Bellona, a
Shadowdancer Airedale, is seven. Sophie, also a
Shadowdancer Airedale who came to the Boohers as a
rescue, is about six weeks younger than Bellona. Silly
Lilly is the newest member of the family, having arrived
on the first day of summer, 2008 - as a rescue.
When she is not tied up with her 'day job', teaching and
inspiring fifth graders at Saddlewood Elementary School,
or laughing at and participating in the raucous antics
of the Airedales, you can find Gena with one or both of
her horses, Padman (aka the Padmonster) and Liberty
Masterpiece (aka Bird). Bird, a 6 year old gold
champagne Saddlebred/Tenn. Walking Horse mare, was also
a rescue. Padman, a 7 year old Walking Horse gelding,
believes very strongly that he rescued and continues to
rescue Gena.
