Lori.

Lori and her husband, Ron Swisher, were introduced to Airedales in 1996 when they adopted their beloved little Airegirl, Flo, at 11 weeks of age.  Three years later in 1999, they adopted Forge, their handsome Aireboy, at 8 weeks. Flo became a certified therapy dog at the age of 5 and delighted nursing home residents with regular visits to several homes every month. She also enjoyed her novice-level obedience classes for several years.  On April 9, 2006, Flo was suddenly taken from us by splenic hemangiosarcoma.  Our shock and grief in losing our sweet yet feisty Floster continues to this day.

Ron trains Forge for hunt tests and they have experienced success in fur tracking, upland flushing and land/water retrieving.  Ron also hunts with Forge for pheasant and ruffed grouse.

When we decided on the theme of Airedale friends, I immediately thought of my parents’ Basset Hound, Archie, whom Flo and Forge occasionally visited.  Archie has some of the longest ears I’ve seen on a Basset.  I pictured Flo peeking out from under one of those long ears and that idea became the inspiration for my block.  My block is made this year in memory of Flo.

Check out the making of  a block.
