McCoy left his paw prints on our hearts, and they will remain there for all time. He shared his wisdom, rants, and ruminations with us all, and left everyone he met with a smile on their face. Take solace in the fact his light still shines down on us during the darkest of days.

Miss Madie

Miss Madeleine (Madie, The Princess)

Miss Madie crossed the bridge peacefully in her own bed in our bedroom on January 22, 2006. She had been with us almost 10 years and will be dearly missed.

Madie was rescued from the Dallas Shelter in June of 1996. Many will recall how shy and fearful she was. She threw up in the car and was intimidated by other dogs. Many in Texas will recall how frightened she was at a seminar we attended. Madie went on to attend the Aire Fest in south Texas and Dallas Obedience Traiing Center where she received her Canine Good Citizen award.

Most of you remember Madie as a Rescue Volunteer. She went with me on home visits where she skillfully assessed the other pets and the family. She helped me evaluate new rescues. She was so good natured I could take her anywhere and her reactions would give me clues about people and their pets.

Madie was also my travel companion. She frequently went with me to pick up and transport rescue dogs. Just this last year it was Madie´s bark that helped us capture a rescue that had bolted during a transport transfer.

Madie was also a very typical Airedale and loved to go after critters. The week before she died she proudly presented us with a tiny mouse.

Madie led a full life and this time last year she was bounding through the snow on a snowshoe trip my husband and I took. Medical problems had been identified this past 6 months but she was well enough to attend the Airedale Stroll in Santa Fe on Dec 26th 2005. After the stroll she rested proudly on her bed as participants paid their respects with a pat and a treat.

Rescue and our lives will not be the same without her. Madie will always hold a very special place in our hearts. Miss Madie will be laid to rest in the meadow where she often roamed hunting gophers.

If you would like to make a donation in Memory of Madie funds will go into the Senior Fund of National Airedale Rescue.

MONTE
August, 1991 - July, 2008

Many years ago, Rusty LaFrance introduced herself to the Airedale Rescue Network as a new volunteer and included the following:

The king of the pride is Monte (Field Marshal Montgomery). Monte is 6 years old and is the sentinel for the ranch, house, car, cabin, horse trailer, etc. ~ just plain king will do. We have had Monte since 6 weeks old. Currently he is our only Airedale.
I discovered "Rescue" when I was looking for a grooming table ~ Monte size. So, I can safely say, Monte got me into "Rescue" in more ways than one. I have such admiration for him ~ I couldn't stand not to help if I could ;^)
When Rusty (now the Nevada Airedale Rescue coordinator) was reminded of this after Monte passed, she said,
funny thing was ~ he hated that table and I never used it on him, just the rescue guys went on the table ;-)
Monte never was a play-with-toys kind of Airedale (except for an occasional slip when I would catch him tossing a toy in the air and entertaining himself). He would take each Rescued Airedale that arrived here at the ranch, and show them each corner of the property ~ I always got a kick out of watching him do that. Some Rescues "listened" to him; others didn't have the attention span ;->. You could see that thought bubble over his head when he had a youngster that wouldn't listen to him. He would just lower his head and walk away, as though he was shaking his head and saying "youngsters ~ sheeeesh". He was the best herding Airedale !! He would put up any horse that got loose and hold them there in the breezeway until I caught up (after hearing his "OHMYGOD-OHMYGOD-OHMYGOD" bark). He guarded the horses as though they were his. My stallion grew up with him and they often played for hours in the arena. He was one of a kind ;-) and I counted on him.

At 17 years of age, Monte couldn't get up, wouldn't eat, was losing his hair, wouldn't let me cut his toenails ~~ but he continued "working" the ranch right up until his last day. I let him sleep on his favorite clover covered mound and do his sentinel work one last time before we took the last trip to the vet.

In Memory of Molli Duff

Molli came from Oklahoma Airedale Rescue at a time they had lots of dogs and Molli had not found a home probably because she had a fused ankle from a break when she was a younger dog. So she sat sort of funny and had a limp like Chester of Gunsmoke.
But we were blessed for her to come into our home and we had over four wonderful years to share with her.  Sometimes it is the dogs that may seem less adoptable in some way (such as seniors) that really steal your heart.

Thank you Molli for all the joy you brought us.

Heidi was adopted by Dee about 10 years ago and traveled everywhere with Dee.  She passed away peacefully and was tremendously loved.

Airedale Information

The ATCA Rescue & Adoption Committee maintains and updates a network of contacts across the country to aid in the re-homing of purebred Airedale Terriers who are lost or abandoned. These contacts are volunteers located in several states, as well as Canada, working to help Airedales in need, adopting them to permanent loving homes.
